EUNEC took part in the study 'Mapping European stakeholders on migrant education'

This SIRIUS network study was undertaken with the purpose of mapping the positions of European civil society stakeholders and some stakeholders in EU member states on the education of migrants in Europe. EUNEC has been interviewed by Ms Maria Golubeva, author of the study.

EUNEC is organizing a seminar for its members on 'Community Schools' on 23-24 May 2013 in Brussels. The programme includes a key note presentation by Professor Alan Dyson, presentations of policy practices from the Member Councils, and a visit to the 'Sint Joost aan Zee' school in Brussels.

EUNEC recommendations on 'Rethinking Education'

On 20 November 2012 the European Commission has published an impressive set of policy recommendations that have to reinforce the cooperation between EU Member States and give a new impetus to education policy in the EU Member States. The most important part of the proposal is the Communication ‘Rethinking education: Investing in skills for better socio-economic outcomes’ The Commission takes the opportunity of the long expected Communication on skills to gather all aspects of European Education and Training policy in an encompassing framework and to give some new impetus. The European Commission wants to put Education and Training high on the agenda, in the EU and in the Member States.

Educational support to newly arrived migrant children (NAMS)

The study on educational support to NAMS has identified three main messages that policy makers should take into consideration while designing integration policies for NAMS through education. Firstly, an integrated approach to inclusion is important. Targeted policy response to NAMS' needs will only work effectively in an inclusive and comprehensive education system. Secondly, identification of NAMS as a specific target group in education is not a prerequisite for having a good and comprehensive integration policy. Finally, a combination of discretion and national monitoring should be ensured for effective implementation of policies.
